I have finally calmed down enough to write about my amazing time last week. Last Thursday my husband was presented with his MBE medal at Windsor Castle, by no less than the Duke of Cambridge. The night before our daughter and ourselves stayed at The Oakley Court hotel just outside Windsor so we could avoid the morning rush coming up from Dorset.
Arriving in Windsor bought back so many happy memories for me. You see we lived there for 2 years; moved in our house 10 June 1982 when our little girl was less than 5 months old. Eleven days later Prince William was born. What a great coincidence, 32 years later Prince William, now Duke of Cambridge was presenting his award.
We had an amazing day at the castle. Everybody was very friendly and helpful. I was nervous for my husband, so I can only guess how nervous and excited all the recipients were. We sat in the front row a few feet away from the proceedings, and all I can say is WOW!
After the presentation we could take a tour around the stately rooms, and then had our photographs taken. We were not allowed to take cameras in with us. Once we were outside in the courtyard we could take photographs, and we took many. I am still grinning when I look at them.
Once we got home my 3 year old grandson’s first question was “Granddad, where is your medal?” and he has already claimed it as his. He must be as proud of him as we all are. What a great achievement, very proud of my husband.
