So, here we are in the tail-end of 2016. That was quick, wasn’t it?! Shops everywhere have had their Christmas decorations up for a while now, we’re hearing the routine songs on the radio and adverts. Like many, you may just want to get Christmas over and done with, and be much more excited about New Year’s Eve instead. If it’s your turn to host the party, here’s some of my best pointers on making it the best New Year’s do ever!
Think About Lighting
If you’re into interior design, you’ll know all about how much lighting can affect the look and feel of a space. Your lighting is going to have a profound effect on the overall mood of the party, so make sure you put some work into planning it out for the best results. Too much lighting can be garish, and make everything appear sharper and more angular than it is, so aim for just enough ambience for people to see each other’s faces and not trip over! If you’re having fireworks, remember to turn the lights off before they start for maximum effect.
Plan your Drinks
It wouldn’t be a New Year’s party without some drinks, so make sure that this is a memorable feature of your night. Greet your guests at the door with something basic – decent beer or wine always goes down well – and bring out cocktails here and there through the night. It’s also a good idea to prepare a nice punch long before anyone arrives, which will keep your guests going in between the trays of cocktails. Obviously, you’re going to want to play host and talk to some of your guests, so you may want to hire a catering service. When you see how affordable some of these are, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Make it Comfy
When you’re trying to throw a party that’s going to make everyone feel great, comfort is key. Sure, some people will start off standing and slouching in the classic mingling pose. However, this can only go on for so long, so make sure that there are a lot of seating options with extra pillows. You can ask some of the guests you’re closest with to bring a few throws. If you’re planning on cordoning off an area of your house, you may want to consider some luxury toilet hire to make sure there aren’t any big queues.
Clean as You Go
This is where those catering services might come in handy! Many people set up their house parties knowing that there’s going to be a mess, and assume that as people have more and more drinks they’ll care less and less about the state of the house. While this is true to some extent, a messy house can really ruin the mood, and will leave you a lot of work to do in the morning. By cleaning as you go along, you’ll avoid slips, stains, and a hangover that you’ll have to work through!
